The proverb warns:
Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.
Essentially I think pride is self-focused and self-reliant, however humility considers others as well as ourselves – others needs, perspectives and differences. Thus as a proud person you stand alone, not only without reality-checks, but without a network of engaged support. In contrast humble people who are considerate and respectful, open to growth and a willingness to include an enriching tapestry of diversity, are team/clan/community people – so when they stumble they do not fall because others are there to hold their hand.
Sadly, I also think pride people surround themselves with an invisible bubble of bravado and arrogance, bur deep down is someone vulnerable and fragile, very fearful of not being good enough.
