The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered
The second line of this proverb grabbed my attention:
How does being understanding lead to being even tempered?
How do we gain understanding?
I believe understanding begins within. It starts with self-understanding. A clarity about what we like and do not like, who we are. Self-understanding and self-acceptance provide a resilient safe place that has the humility and capacity to allow others to have a different reality to our own, and a willingness to tangle with differences to find win-win solutions.
when we are able to manage our own emotions and reactions to differences we can be more level headed, able to handle stress and conflict without becoming overly emotional or reactive, and thus better problem solvers. Being even tempered means increased focus, better communication, more energy heightened mental health, improved relationships and increased productivity
