Quite harsh…..but True?
When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.
There is a good kind of pride. The pride that shows gratitude:
+ I like who I am – grateful to my Maker, and the gifts of life for growth and discovery, even when there are scary circumstances and testing relationships.
+ I have overcome – gratitude for perseverance and purpose
+ I am proud of my team / family – I’m so glad we are connected and share space.
Then there is a pride that is distancing and disconnected. A pride that unbalances us because how we see ourselves is very different to how others experience us. There is a pride that does not care as long as we look good and get the credit. This kind of pride cannot be trusted. In this situation the opposite of trust is not distrust, but disgust and disgrace.
Humility it is not weakness, it is not being a doormat, but it brings consideration, curiosity and compassion which is where wisdom begins. It unveils a perspective that we are not always right, other’s opinions and voices count. There is a gentle state of mind with humility that loves others as much as we love ourselves, and considers other’s needs not only our own. Humility acknowledges that for the rest of our lives we will be learning and being better than before.
